 1.) Can I disinfect my toothbrush in the dishwasher or microwave oven?

       Loose articles of food in the dishwasher can easily get trapped in your toothbrush
       bristles, which is unsanitary. The heat from both appliances cause the bristles to
       harden, and can injure gums. In most cases, the pad under the toothbrush bristles
       is stapled to the brush. The metal staple may cause the microwave oven to
       malfunction.

      It is not recommended because the Hydrogen Peroxide sold in stores is a Pharmaceutical

      Steam machines. Both of these machines require a cycle time to disinfect a

      Ultra Violet (UV) Machines

        These units are only effective when the UV light is directly on the toothbrush 
        bristles. If part of the bristles are not directly in the line of the light, the cleaning 
        process is incomplete. Some UV units require the toothbrush bristles to face
        downward, causing the brush to be submerged in contaminated water. The
        combination from the heat in the bulb and the pressure of the brush resting on
        its head, cause the bristles to harden, therefore increasing the risk of gum damage.
 
      Steam Machines

        The drawbacks with steam are the messiness and not knowing whether the apparatus
        has reached its proper temperature to sterilize. Also, some units require distilled water
        only. There are 108 pathogens known to survive distillation, let alone steam. These
        units are also expensive and not portable.
